linux once again

well it has come to that time of the year when we all are looking for a change of pace. so i have once again set the old laptop to dual boot with the ubuntu on one half and the xp on the other. the xp has the glass look to it. and the liinux has a similar. althought the reason that i want to install the xgl graphics engine and take it for a ride. i have seen videos of it and its very impressive. blows the aqua and aero engines out of the water. but i cant get it to run on the graphics card on my laptop, so i plan to buy another hd and add it to the desktop and run it 64 bit. then the xgl will be ineffect. sweat.

there is a nice way to test to see if infact the antivirus software is functioning, need not aplly to mac osX but i will try it out both on a friends and at skool. All you have to do is to copy this string,

Czech Republic runs over USA

Today while most of us where at work and some of us where just waking up, that was me, and the rest of us where still sleeping the U.S team finds out the hard way that they still have no real grasp of the game we call football. The czech team came out firing, scoring their first goal in about 5 minutes and just kept the pressure on the U.S defense the rest of the half. the lack of urgency on the U.S part could be the reason that they just could not score a goal.
as for the czech team they are possibly the team to watch from their group. dispite the loss of their gigantic forword, Jan Koller, they still where able to keep the pressure offensivly and hold them back on defense. the czech team had a first time world cup player, Tomas Rosicky a midfielder, came to the rescue and steps up and fills the large shoes of their lone forword Jan Koller.
the match i want to see now is the czech team play the italians on the 22nd of june. this saturday the italians play the U.S and will probably hand them their second lose and squashing the U.S chances of moving on passed regular play.
all in all i dont think that the U.S should really get their hopes up and just enjoy their time in germany and not worry about their sorry performance.

the other day my father and myself went to the local best buy to pick up a new game for the system that we just built to test its performance. as we arrive at the best buy we get out of the car and notice that these two guys in a large f-150 where trying to back out of the stall. what we noticed that they where have a hard time backing out. the bed of the truck was actually rubbing against the car next to them. all of a sudden this fat dude pours out of the truck. his friend then tries to get the truck out of the stall. but to no avail he failed, that is until my father helped them out. he walked over there and directed the dude out of the stall. but he unfortunately was unable to do so with out damaging the other vehicle. at that point he instructed him to just take off because they where about to get an increase in there insurance. so they did as he said. i was surprised because the things that my father was telling them to do would have been the most logical course of action. but they where not very good at driving that truck. i guess that with that example i guess one could say that men can drive large trucks as well?

recently there has been this update that checks to see if you have a genuine copy of xp. well if you can dont install it and tell updates to never remind you of that update again. With this new update i am almost in the notion that we should turn off auto updates and just wait each month for the autopatcher update. that way they go throught the trouble in finding the critical updates for you. either that or monitor everytime the updates come throught. i recommend that even if you dont know what autopatcher is. you may not know what you are looking for when you check the updates but just dont allow the genuine update get installed. then you will play hell getting it to go away. there are walk throughts, but it is a bit difficult to get through the process. just make sure that you are admin. i guess with vista coming out soon they want as many people to pay up, because it will be less expensive to upgrade then to buy a full version, if you actually choose one of the seven different shipping copies. i am starting to lean more towards mac and linux again, seeing how they use no copyright protection. that is a lot nicer and cheaper. I am also waiting fot the chance to run a triple threat in a stylish black powerbook. but anyway i am wondering off a little. what i will do is to put the link to autopatcher everymonth when the update is ready. the full version takes a few days to get out after the first of the month but the update is always out on time. so here you go, just click me this is assuming that you are up to date so far this year. other wise you will need to get the full version for last month and/or wait for the latest vesion to be released. and you are very naughty for not being up to date.

today this couple tried to cut infront of me and my father. this was their angle: they had their 14 yr old wait in line and then wait till she reaches the front and then place their full basket down after her stuff as if they where all together. At which point they then place the divider between there items. As i say something they then start a scene, and start to criticize my life. then after we get past that whole thing,the daughter pays with nickels and dimes. To top that off she then is a dollar short. so my father offers to give her the dollar and they refuse. Now they have to decide what to take out. After it was all said and done, she asks the cashier why the total was 6.98 for only 5 items.(we where at the 99 cent store buying bird feed) the cashier looked upset cause she just had to count seven dollars in nickels and dimes with a few pennies. At this time i had to take the opportunity to make fun of the question that the ignorant little girl asked. once again her mother had something stupid to say. Truly amazing.

Gmail drive

there is a new windows app. that allows you to use your gmail account as a storage device. now you can have 2 gb's of storage acces through my computer. it shows up there and you just have to log on. its still new but works great. what i did was created a new gmail account just for storage. so if you have an account just create a new yahoo or something and invite yourself or just make another one through your cellphone. just download theinstaller and extract it and open my computer and there it is. then all you have to do is to double click it and enter the info and bam! you can store things to it. nice! If in fact to reach from another computer all you have to do is bring the installer with you or just download it when you need it. i will post any updates to the software or just check back with the site for any updates. enjoy

Its been a while

this is probably the first post that I have done in a while. With all the school work and all I haven't had much time to post many thoughts or interesting things in regards to tech. I recently read about boot camp that will be out on osX 10.5, I believe. If you haven't heard its allows for other operating systems to be loaded on the new intel macs. That's right, you can dual and even triple boot. This is a dream come true. Most die hard mac users are just upset with the idea, but I on the other hand love it. You see even though I am a long time windows user I still like certain aspects of the other operating systems. I find the idea of being one sided stupid. The fact is osX is not supior then all. It just looks nice, lets not forget its just unix with a nice shell. Which means that its really close to linux, another great os. Windows can run just as stable, when optimized. But that takes some common knowledge, and the average user dose not want to take the time to learn the various tweaks. That's why if you ask the average mac osX user how things run on it they are just as unknowing as the average windows user. The only people that actually know whets going on with their os are the linux users. They ultimately have the control of whets going on behind the scenes. Its just that osX has everything done for you, where the other os's you have to actually learn something. I have been using three os's for the last year and osX still crashes, but it crashes in a different way. Just like linux since the kernal is in a different part from where the programs are running, only the program crashes. So lets wait and see if Vista will have the same deal. If so, with a new shell, noobs might now have a choice. The only real grip I have is that macs are for people who like to have the blinders on. Itunes sucks, and the rest of ilife is ok, but not the best. You see up until now windows just never really cared about making software other then office and the os. Third party apps have been great. Not to mention that the programs often times run faster. It would be nice to talk to someone that uses osX and not hear them rattle off the same comment,"I will never use windows or anything else again." The fact of the matter is that they are like horses that have blinders on. They will never see anything else but what they are told. So how can you spend $3000 on something that you can never make your own, I really don't like to be told what to do. Steve Jobs dose not know everything, although people might think that he dose. I am not preaching that one os is better then the rest but just use what you need and that's it. Adobe is universal, and now with gimp, you may never have to shell out $600 to edit your photos or create a logo or pdf or what ever else you use Adobe for. We live in the 21st century and we all have choices, be a leader and not a follower, and do what you feel that you need to. Don't do it cause a guy that only wears black turtle necks and jeans says that you need to do, or even a spectacle wearing guy who seems like a tyrant.

the mac contest is over

for those that did not know there recently was a contest in which challenged its contestants in the ways of computers. the challenge? to install windows xp on a intell based mac. people from all around the world tried and only one man prevailed. his prize you ask? money, fame, women, well maybe not so much the women but he might get some. but there is money and fame thought, a nice two out of three. details have not yet been release but there is video to validate the claim. whether all this is true is yet proven, but i really wont believe it till i see it, all i would need if one of the new coreduo mac powerbooks and 2 gb of ram with a nice 120 or 160 gb hd and then ill let everyone know. my curiousity is killing me. then i am sure that linux will be next. then you could possibly have three in box. but hopefully three is not a crowd. anyway will see.untill then check out the video of the victory.

recently there was a security issue that was found in the breezy badger release. there was an ability to see the roots log on and password. but only a few hours after the post the problem was fixed. there in lies the reason i am writing this post. it only took a matter of hours for them to fix the problem, the response time was amazing. it would be nice if other software developers would be that responsive. especially if it where microsoft. they have had many of the same security holes go month's before they finally release a patch for the flaw. a prime example is the many holes that are still present in internet explorer. i guess thats why i started to learn the way of the nix. although there are reports that vista is more secure and blah blah blah. perhaps its because this time they are starting from the ground up. only time will tell.

i found this little helper while running through digg, its a little batch file that anyone can create to "kill" a task or a few with a double click. simplely open the task manager, and then choose the task(s) that you want to kill in a hurry. after the selection(s) you want to open notepad, and you type this @echo off taskkill/im YPager.exe/f taskkill/im msnmsgr.exe/f these are examples of some process that you might find. just replace the "YPager.exe" with the process that you want to kill. oh, before i forget the "im" before the task stands for the image name that you want to stop, and the "/f" is to forcefully stoping the task. then just save the file as "taskkill.bat" and thats with the quotes, or you can name it what ever that you want. thats it, thats all that you have to do and then place it on the desktop. have fun and be careful on what task you put on the list cause some are essential. just google them first before adding the line.

i guess the phishing day's are coming to an end. no longer will people have to be watching out i their email for these types of attacks. instead we have leveled up, and have to be on the lookout for the keyloggers. no the unsolicited email will take you to a site that has the keylogger hidden somewhere in the site waiting for people to click the link and down load the bot and watch it work its magic. but thats a lot of info to be looking through dont you think. well, the logger only records info when the users navigate to a desired site then it flips on, and when your done with the logon info it radios back to the host and spills the beans. sings like a canary, gives you user name and password. the authorities have stopped two different rings, one in brazil and the other in russia that was operating in france, in the last two weeks and suspect that it could become an international problem soon.

February is upon us and its now that time a year when men willing buy some meaningless gift for the significant other, all in the good name of "getting some." they go out to the malls, shops and other locals to spend their hard earned money on something that will probably windup in drawer or some box tucked away after it lost its magic, or even better it had better be an improvement from the last gift. always have to kick it up a notch and out do yourself. its almost like you would have to spend an entire year contemplating what you have to do, jump through the hoop one more time show dog. the stress and anguish that you go through, the sleepless nights wondering will it be good enough? how long will i be with her? i mean , i dont want to buy a ring or anything expensive like that. that is unless she agreed to give it back to me after the break up, but that is highly unlikly. id rather go to the dentist then ask for it back. but if she wants to keep it then send her the unfinished bill, then youll see how much she really wants it. but anyway im getting way off course, what i really wanted to talk about is the virus that is going to be circulating some through email and chat groups. A virus known as "Vbs_Valentin.A" and other viruses like "Worm-blebla.B" and "VBS-ILoveyou" will also assault computers if users open e-mails or attachments disguised with Valentine blessings. so be carefull with those emails and everything else that may or may not go down.

in a totally non-tech related topic, i have always wondered that if a man is conversing with a women and she begins to play with her hair, dose that mean that she is slightly interested in that man. i have asked many different types of women and they have all given me a different answers. some of the more "wild" girls that i asked said that the hair playing gesture is the most obvious one, along with drawing any attention to their body, like their legs or neck. these girls also mentioned that they would tell what kinda guy you are if in fact you actually pick up on these signs. the other groups of girls i asked gave the same answer, that yes it is true, and women will act like they are interested in what you are saying as well, so i guess the smarter you sound the more impressed they are. at the same time people often times play with things with their left hand when they are not telling the truth. so if a lady plays with her hair with her left hand dose that mean that she is not really interested in you? or is she just misleading you cause she wants a meaningless night of sweatiness. that may be why some men have problem speaking and meeting women, we have a lot of things to think about. its like 'oh shes playing with her hair! but wait, is that her... damn it is! its her left hand. does she mean no way or maybe? i cant tell, damn!' i think that i will stick to the super market and church to pick up on chicks, its some much eaiser to strike up a conversation while looking at the vegetables and deciding what type of salad dressing i want to try, or better yet while waiting for my turn for confession, or while standing in line for communion. this little box has 2 gb of storage and a boat load of options which include a voice recorder fm tuner. it also has a usb rechargeable lithuim-ion battery. no word if it is removable. this little guy is also only $159. to me it seems like a better choice then the nano, because i really dont need to see anything. we should all be realistic when would you ever want to watch a video on such a small screen. not to mention in odrer to that with the nano you need to flash it with linux and then the nano can play video.

we might have one time or another downloaded a song or two off the web. some of us have done it legally and some of us have not. one of the ways that you can download legally is from itunes, napster or bleep.com. but what most people dont know is that the bit rates differ from service to service. for example you can buy the actual cd at the best quality possible, the reason being it is uncompressed. you actually hear the quality difference between the actual cd and the compressed version. (although, most people would say that they dont care, but ill get back to that later.)most times when you download the song you usually get it at a bit rate of 128kbps, that is, every second of music is represented by 128 kilobits of data. cd quality is rated at 175 kilobytes - 11 times more then the compressed 128. also when downloading you dont get the insert and the album cover, maybe just an image. when you buy a song from itunes you buy it at 128kbps,using acc encoding, for ruffly 7.99. while on napster you would get to download the same song at 192kbps, in wma format, for only 7.95. so for .5 less you get a higher bit rate but a crappy format. from bleep.com you can download the same song at 320 kbps, and in the mp3 format for just 6.99, that is also with out the drm of both apple and windows. by far bleep.com is the overall winner in this war of the legal downloads. yet another bonus is that your not locked into using one type of media player and you can move the file between many different players that you would like. the customer has the most freedom to do what ever they would like with their new purchase. that freedom is what we had be for the slavery of the ipod and apples need to lock their noob users. i just hate the idea that you buy something and they tell you how to use the product that belongs to you. after all you traded those hard earned dollars for that item. still the file sharing fans have no need to worry, one just has to select the bit rate you would like it in and the format. that sounds really easy to me.

my linux box

i am so glad that i have ventured into the world of linux. it has never been so easy, not even with windows. i had the help of automatix and some common know how from windows command line, but the rest has been very easy. the creative external soundcard works and everything. infact i just got it to work today and now i am working on recording from it. if that is achieved i will almost abandon windows on my laptop. althought i will never leave windows i might just use the linux os more often then the windows. mainly cause i can run different windows at the same time. also the stability is nice. i also plan to order a 1 gb strip of memory this week and see how it improves the running of windows and for the most part after effects. i know that the linux half is going to run like no other. right now it runs great with the 512 that i have installed right now. infact it runs smoother then the windows os and i really like that i can run it with so little memory. althought i dont know is firefox 1.5 has the same memory leak that the windows and mac ver. had. if so i am unaware of such a leak. althought with the new fix the windows ver. is running much better and there is no serious memory leak anymore. as for the release of ie 7.0 beta 2 there have been many of issues. first of all there was the discovery of a major flaw with in 15 minutes if the release of the beta tester. aside from the flaw you would also need to authenticate your windows. so all those corporate editions would work. i would have to reinstall my windows home edition in order to try it out. i frankly will not go back to home and i barely will go back to windows only for the adobe products and the games. if i could find a linux ver of counterstrike then i will almost always boot to the linux. i just find it a lot more stable and i dont have a spyware program and a antivirus app. i have installed a firewall named firestarter but i really doubt that i will need it. i also like the fact of the stream lines log on. but i have yet to introduce it to the fam or even a customer of mine. i think that it will be some time until i am able to deliver a linux box to a potential customer. i might if i have it all set up with everything that the user might want and not to mention that i would have to set up the folders that they would be using. the idea of remote management would be nice, at this point it would be glamorous. but enough of me ranting and raving i need to get this out on the table and it is that ubuntu has definitely changed my mind about linux and its possibility to take over.

this is the possible name for the new google os. Essentially it is a moded version of ubuntu. which i may add is the way of the future of linux. granted you have to learn a little command lines but i have been running breezy bager for about a month and i can play my mp3's, have two different torrent apps, frostwire(limewire like program), firefox 1.5 w/ all the plugins, and it is really stable. With the app automatix it helps with the finding and the loading of most of the apps listed above (i installed firefox 1.5 myself) and the video and audio codecs. the only thing i have not been able to do is to view some xml on certain web sites. what i mean is that i can view it on a pc. not to mention all the drives that i have that are formatted for win can be read by it. so essentially i have a dual booting laptop, but i have allocated more space for linux, and left about 10 gbs for windows. the reason for that was because i downloaded this program that helps a windows os view a linux file system and format. so with that i can still access that part of the hard drive and store and recall the info. i do notice that when i do the ubuntu start up lags the next time i try to start it up, it just checks for disk error. anywho, what i am getting at is that when the working version of goobuntu comes out it can be a nice substitute for windows , not to mention that if the person is a new user then they will not have to unlearn anything and start fresh. the most important aspect is that it is free. on another note google also released a newer version of the google toolbar and google bookmarks. you just have to visit the google page.

the other day an employee of ameriprise, a spin off of american express, had his car broken into and the laptop that he used for work was stolen. one would think that the company would not be worried about the info that was on the laptop, i mean it should be encrypted right? well, it turns out that all he had was a user password and the info was unencrypted. so now the information of some 230,000 people is floating around some where in the us, and all they can say that the likelihood of the individual who stole the said laptop would not know what the info is. well lets think a minute here, if you are able to get in the laptop, safemode would be my first choice because most people do not set an admin password, and did find the file with all the info in it, i think if i just glanced at it and be able to tell that the file contained the persons name, social, address and even in some cases the account number. uhm, if the individual stole the laptop by breaking in the car why would he not use the stole numbers to try and by something online or apply for other cards with the peoples info. this company is not the sharpest tool in the tool shed. to make a long story short they started to contact the people last saturday and the employee was fired.

i recently posted that you can use google as a proxy. well i tried it and it works to a certain degree, but it also dose not get you all the content. the post before that was also on a proxy that might work. well i tried it at school which is secure(to a certain extent, i heard that the password last year was pencil) and i got redirected to the microsoft site. well i did come across this free proxy and it actually works. it also gets all the content from the restricted site. *update* so sorry it seems that this proxy is not working anymore, and i thoght it was just that chaffey college admins found out about it. but it dose not work at my home either. i guess i gave them to much credit. for some more proxy servers just go to google or even digg and search for proxy's.
